I have spent years studying mathematics and teaching it.
My background includes university lecturing, mathematics teaching, research, mathematical modelling, statistics and data science. The part that matters here is being able to help a student make sense of the maths in front of them.
Experience across different levels and courses.
I have taught university mathematics in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Nigeria, including calculus, general mathematics, real and complex variables, advanced mathematics and analysis.
I have also taught secondary mathematics and worked with students who need maths as part of another degree rather than as their main subject.
The student should leave knowing more than the answer.
A useful lesson should make the next problem less mysterious. I want students to understand what they are doing, spot the structure of a problem and become less dependent on help over time.
