You may be studying finance, biology or business and still have a compulsory mathematics paper. The course title can vary, but the purpose is usually the same: give students the mathematical tools their programme requires.
One paper can move through several kinds of maths.
A General Mathematics course may start with algebra and functions, then move into calculus, matrices, probability, statistics or modelling. Students are often expected to switch methods quickly.
